Artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday business, and at Total Renovations, we’ve been looking at ways to use it that actually make sense for our team and our customers.

For us, AI isn’t about replacing builders, project managers or the people our clients speak to. Renovations are still very much a people business. Every home is different, every client has different priorities, and there are plenty of decisions that require real experience and judgement.

Instead, we’re using AI to help with some of the work happening behind the scenes — making the business more organised, responsive and efficient.

Helping Us Respond to Enquiries Faster

When someone is thinking about renovating, they often have questions before they’re ready to book a consultation.

They might want to know whether we work in their area, whether we take on a certain type of renovation, what the next step is, or simply whether their project sounds like something we can help with.

We’ve been testing AI-assisted systems to help us manage these initial enquiries, particularly when our team is busy on-site or outside normal office hours.

The goal is simple: make it easier for people to get in touch and make sure enquiries don’t get missed.

AI can help collect basic information such as:

  • The type of renovation or property work required
  • The location of the property
  • The client’s preferred timeframe
  • Contact information
  • Photos or additional project details
  • Availability for an initial consultation

Once we have that information, our team can follow up with a much clearer understanding of what the customer needs.

Supporting Our Marketing and Content

Running a renovation business involves a surprising amount of work outside the actual building site.

There are project updates to share, website content to maintain, social media posts to create, customer enquiries to follow up and plenty of administration happening in the background.

AI helps us organise ideas, draft content and turn information from our team into something useful for homeowners.

That means we can spend more time sharing real projects, renovation advice and what’s happening around Total Renovations, rather than spending hours staring at a blank screen trying to write a social media caption.

The photos, projects, experiences and opinions are still ours. AI simply helps us communicate them more efficiently.

Making Administration More Efficient

Renovation companies deal with a lot of information.

There are enquiries, client communications, appointments, project notes, follow-ups and internal tasks that all need to stay organised.

We use technology and automation to help keep some of those processes moving.

AI can assist with things such as organising enquiry information, preparing follow-up messages, summarising notes and identifying tasks that need attention.

It might not be the exciting part of renovating a home, but better administration can make a big difference to the customer experience.

Giving Our Team More Time for the Work That Matters

One of the biggest reasons we’re exploring AI is time.

There are plenty of repetitive tasks in any business that need to be completed but don’t necessarily require someone to start from scratch every time.

If technology can reduce some of that workload, our team has more time to focus on the things that actually need human involvement — meeting homeowners, planning projects, solving problems and delivering good renovation work.

That’s where we believe AI has the most value.

Not doing the job for us, but helping our people do their jobs better.

What AI Can’t Replace

There are also areas where we don’t believe AI should be making the decisions.

You can’t replace walking through a property with an experienced renovation professional.

AI can’t properly understand how a home feels, notice every detail of an existing building or have a genuine conversation with a homeowner about what they want to achieve.

It also shouldn’t be relied on to provide firm renovation pricing, construction advice or promises about a project without the right people first assessing the property.

Renovations involve real homes, real budgets and often significant investment. Those conversations deserve proper human attention.

Combining Technology With Experience

The construction industry has changed considerably over the years, and businesses need to keep adapting.

For Total Renovations, using AI is simply another part of that process.

We’ll continue experimenting with new systems where they can genuinely improve the way we operate, while keeping the important parts of the renovation experience personal.

You’ll still deal with real people.

Our team will still visit your property, listen to what you want, work through the challenges and help bring the project together.

We’re just using smarter tools behind the scenes to help us do it.

Whether you’re considering a kitchen or bathroom renovation, an extension, a property reconfiguration or a larger whole-home renovation, the best place to start is a conversation.

Technology might help us receive your enquiry, but the renovation itself still starts with people.
